About me

My training and experience in helping and supporting clients with qualified and accredited counselling

“My life is my teaching.” Ghandi

My London and Leeds counselling practice

My practice emerged from the experience I gained during my training and following placement years working within the NHS, MIND, Victim Support, The Wandsworth Association of Psychotherapists and The Awareness Centre.

During that time and since then I have worked short and long term with a broad range of people with a variety of issues. I also have experience in the different ways that life can be challenging and keep us stuck, thus preventing us from reaching our full potential.

My work providing counselling in London and Leeds is to support you in discovering both what you want and what you need. I will work with you to find ways to move forward so that you may make better sense of and get the most out of your life.

Together we’ll identify the issues which are causing problems and work towards freeing you from them. In my experience this process can be difficult but also very rewarding. By working with me you’ll be working with somebody who understands this. I also understand that your successful outcome will be as unique as you are.

The common thread that describes me and my different roles as a therapist, supervisor, coach alongside my other services?

It would be offering a non-judgemental, therapeutic and reflective space.

Professional memberships

I am a UKCP registered and accredited psychotherapeutic counsellor and a clinical member of the UPCA. I am also a member of the BACP and you will find me listed on their websites. These regulating bodies ensure I continue to work within their ethical frameworks and in your best interest. As a UKCP accredited member my clients work with a therapist that has been further assessed and approved to be on the UK Council for Psychotherapy. The UKCP is ‘recognised nationally and in Europe as an indication of competent and ethical practice’, (UKCP, 2014). I am also listed on the Counselling Directory, which means you are in good hands.

Qualifications and approaches: Counselling for individuals and couples

I trained for six years at Richmond College, Esher College and Roehampton University which with other qualifications culminated in a BSc in Integrative Counselling. I am trained and have experience working in the following counselling approaches:

  • BSc in integrative counselling

  • CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy)

  • Couples counselling

  • Existentialism

  • Integrative

  • Person centred

  • Psychodynamic

  • TA (Transactional analysis)

Couples counselling

What does it take to be in a couple, and be in a loving, healthy and safe relationship? During my years working with individuals and couples these are the kinds of questions I have encountered. To better help clients answer these, I have engaged in the following specific couples training:

  • Certificate in the study of the couple relationship

  • Certificate in psychosexual studies

  • Certificate in couples and relationship therapy

  • Developing skills in couples work

  • What do couples want today in intimate relationships

  • Existential perspectives on relationships

  • Authenticity and couples

Clinical supervision

After several years of being a counsellor and therapist myself, I further trained and qualified as a supervisor. Thus expanding my practice (in addition to continuing to help clients) to supervising other counsellors and therapists both individually and in groups. My Diploma qualification in integrative supervision enables me to supervise (trainees and qualified) practitioners working within various approaches including the psychodynamic, person centred, existentialism and cognitive behavioural therapies, working themselves with individuals, couples and groups.

I am in the early stages of supervising coaches wanting to develop and strengthen their coaching framework and practice. For you this might involve focusing on boundaries or the coaching relationship. Do contact me to find out more.

  • Diploma in integrative supervision

Therapeutic coaching

One of my areas of interest led to training and gaining a diploma as a therapeutic coach. When working in this way I bring much of my skills and experience to the role, although this particular approach is more goal oriented and directive. I am also a member of the BACP Coaching Division.

  • Diploma in therapeutic coaching

Further professional training

As part of my membership and registrations with regulatory counselling bodies (BACP, UKCP, UPCA) a professional counsellor has to undergo compulsory CPD (continuing professional development). This is to maintain current best practice and standards, and continually develop my competence and knowledge for the benefit of my clients. As part of my ongoing CPD I have developed further skills and practice in:

  • Neurodivergence training - currently ongoing training to support neurodiverse clients

  • Certificate in psychosexual studies for both individuals and couples

  • Couples counselling training

  • Couples and sex addiction training

  • Sex and porn addiction training

  • CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy) for depression

  • CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy) for suicide

My approach

One of the founders of analysis Jung said: “Learn your theories as well as you can but put them aside when you touch the miracle of living”. With those wise words in mind, my approach as a psychotherapeutic counsellor, supervisor and coach is to work closely with you in a trusting, safe and confidential space. I believe these are paramount when there are difficult issues such as sex, money, abuse, bereavement and other issues in your history and experience to talk through. Sessions are tailored to meet your individual needs, so that your unique self and experiences are heard and respected.
